The curriculum

To help you understand how we deliver the curriculum, we’ve provided links to a number of documents that we hope you will find useful and informative.

In order to fulfil the requirements of the National Curriculum and meet the needs of our mixed age classes, our curriculum is designed around a two year cycle. In the school year 2014/15 children will be studying Cycle A.

Helping your child with maths

In November we held a parent workshop to provide information to help parents support their children with maths. This booklet was provided as part of the workshop.

Reading and phonics

At Birchanger, children in Reception and Key Stage 1 are taught phonics using ‘letters and sounds’.

We have an extensive library and our reading books for early readers follow a colour coded scheme to ensure that children are reading books at a level appropriate to their reading development. We also encourage children to read, share and listen to a wide range of ‘real books’ to foster a love of reading from an early age.
